Women in Wilderness: Girls Outdoor Adventure (Age 15-17)
Health insurance is required to participate in the program. This trip demands a high level of physical fitness. ADK reserves the right to deny participation if group safety will be compromised through an individual's participation.

The goal of Women in Wilderness: Girls Outdoor Adventure is to empower young women to pursue the outdoor endeavors they are passionate about. Throughout the week participants will try a variety of outdoor pursuits and meet women leading in the conservation field.

This program is hosted at ADK’s Education Yurt Village, located at 1002 Adirondack Loj Road, Lake Placid, NY 12946. Parents or guardians should plan on meeting with the trip leaders at ADK’s Education Yurt Village at 9:00am on Day 1 for introductions and an overview of the program. This is where parents or guardians will also pick up the participants at 11:00am on Day 5.

The program will be led by two women of ADK’s Education Department. On Day 1 we will review our itinerary, clothing, and equipment; and get settled in our Yurt basecamp for the week. Participants will be sleeping in shared yurts and/or individual tents at night and should be prepared to spend the week outside. Each day the group will take part in an outdoor activity, such as paddling, hiking, and trail work. Along the way the group will meet up with women in leadership roles in conservation, such as summit stewards, forest rangers, and trail builders. Participants will be free to leave by 12:00pm. Itinerary may be subject to change due to weather.

All group equipment (stoves, fuel bottles, cook sets, water filters, first aid kit, etc.) will be provided by ADK. All meals and snacks (Day 1 Lunch through Day 5 Breakfast) will also be provided. Participants are expected to provide their own personal equipment listed in the link above. Please let us know well in advance if you require any equipment.

No prior camping, paddling, or hiking experience is necessary, but some prior outdoor experience is recommended. Good physical condition, proper clothing, and proper equipment are a must.
