Eclipse at Cascade Welcome Center: Totality on the Trails

Join us at Cascade Welcome Center to experience the Adirondack Park's first total eclipse! Along with 12 miles of trails; enjoy family friendly crafts, activities, and great celestial views. As you plan for your eclipse viewing, keep in mind that conditions on high elevation trails in early April are highly variable, fragile, and potentially hazardous. Marvel at the eclipse in a natural setting while recreating responsibly!

What you can expect at Cascade Welcome Center:

  • Create your own cyanotype artwork 1pm- 2:30pm (while supplies last)
  • Make your own pinhole eclipse viewer.
  • Help NASA and the Eclipse Soundscape Project study the eclipse.
  • Get a close look at the eclipse with a projected telescope image (weather dependent).
  • Two StoryWalks presented by the Lake Placid Public Library
  • Free eclipse glasses available while supplies last.
  • Indoor and outdoor viewing opportunities
  • South facing views of the eclipse over the high peaks
  • 12 miles of trails
  • Knowledgeable staff
  • Bathrooms
  • Large parking area

Schedule for this event

  • 7 am Cascade Welcome Center and its trails open for the day.
  • 1pm Eclipse at Cascade Welcome Center: Totality on the Trails begins.
  • 1pm - 2:30pm Make your own cyanotype artwork (while supplies last)
  • 2:12 pm Eclipse start
  • 3:25 pm - 3:28pm Totality
  • 4:36 pm Eclipse and Eclipse at Cascade Welcome Center: Totality on the Trails ends.
  • 5 pm Cascade Welcome Center and its trails close.

ADK will not be providing food or drinks, please come prepared with what you need to stay comfortable throughout the event. A water bottle filling station is available at Cascade Welcome Center.

Registration for this free event ensures participants will receive additional information leading up to this event. Parking at Cascade Welcome Center is first come first serve and registration for this event does NOT guarantee a parking spot.
