Canoe Safety and Rescue Clinic
Health insurance is required to participate in this program.

The Canoe Safety & Rescue Clinic is a half-day course that teaches the skills required to perform deep-water rescues, prevent illness, and to prepare for your next water-based adventure. We’ll also discuss proper paddling gear and practice various reentry methods in the event that you capsize your vessel. You will go home with increased confidence in your ability to perform a rescue when it really counts. The program will be led by one or more of ADK’s Education Department staff.

The lessons are taught on nearby Heart Lake, which is a motor-free flatwater lake with extraordinary views of the High Peaks. Being a relatively small body of water, it is protected from moderate wind and waves. There is easy access to shore and restroom facilities.

No prior paddling experience is necessary. Good physical condition, proper clothing, and proper equipment are a must. ADK has canoes, PFD’s, and paddles available for you to borrow, but feel free to bring your own equipment.
