National Trails Day: Klondike Notch from South Meadows Patrol

Health insurance is required to participate in this program.

The National Trails Day: Klondike Notch from South Meadows Patrol is a 1-day-long cooperative trail work opportunity for anyone ages 14 and up. No prior experience is necessary! During the program, the crew will patrol a section of trail in the High Peaks Wilderness. The patrol will be led by ADK’s crew leaders, who will instruct participants on the safe and efficient use of the tools.

The crew and crew leaders will meet at the Adirondak Loj on Saturday, June 07, 2025 at 08:00 AM. Once everyone has arrived, the crew will get in a van and drive to the South Meadows trailhead. During the project, the crew will hike a total of 6.5 miles, removing blowdown and clearing drainages along a 3.2-mile long section of the trail.

This program is great for anyone who loves trails in the Adirondacks and wants to give back to them. Come prepared to work hard, get your hands dirty, and have fun!

While highly rewarding, trail work is also physically and mentally demanding. Participants should be prepared to work in the rain, bugs, and mud! We will work in virtually all weather conditions, as long as it is safe to do so. Volunteers should expect to use tools such as hand saws, axes, hazel hoes and pruning shears. While no prior experience is necessary, good physical condition and proper clothing are a must!

ADK provides all tools and personal protective equipment needed for the patrol.

Food and Lodging

For those wishing to arrive early or stay late, campsites at the Heart Lake Wilderness Campground will be available free of charge to volunteers on Friday, June 6th and Saturday, June 7th. Food will also be provided free of charge to volunteers at the Loj dining room, including Friday night dinner; breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday; and breakfast on Sunday.

*ADK reserves the right to deny participation if group safety will be compromised through an individual’s participation.

*ADK cannot guarantee a time the project will be finished.
