Backcountry Snowshoeing for Beginners is an introductory snowshoe program to help you gain an understanding of equipment and techniques needed to snowshoe on any terrain. Please plan on meeting in ADK’s Education Yurt Village at 9:00am for introductions and overview of the course. We’ll talk about equipment and backcountry safety considerations and then head outside for more instruction. While on the trail we’ll practice techniques and discuss trail etiquette. The program will be led by one or more of ADK’s Education Department staff. Snowshoes will be available to borrow upon request.
No snowshoeing experience is necessary. Be prepared to snowshoe off-trail in deep snow and in cold weather! Good physical condition, proper winter clothing, and proper equipment are a must.
